The Most In-Demand SAP Modules in 2026, Ranked by the Postings

S4 Contracts Editorial · Oct 3, 2026

We counted open SAP postings across US and UK boards and employer career sites. SuccessFactors, FICO and ABAP lead on volume; BTP, EWM and architecture lead on scarcity. Here is the full ranking and what it means for where to specialize.

"Which module should I specialize in?" is the most common question SAP consultants ask, and most answers are opinion. This one is a count. We looked at open postings on US boards, employer career sites that feed this board, and the UK's IT Jobs Watch contract statistics, which publish module-level counts and rates for the six months to October 2026.

Volume: where the most jobs are

Measured by how often a module appears in SAP contract advertisements (UK, six months to 6 October 2026, which is the cleanest public dataset):

Module Contract ads Change vs prior year
SuccessFactors 294 up sharply (rate +8.7%)
ABAP 139 up 17%
SAP FI 134 flat
HANA 95 down
CO 85 flat
Payroll 85 up
FICO (as a pair) 76 up 25%
HCM 76 flat
MM 65 up 7%
SD 65 up 86%
GRC 51 up 4x
Basis 44 up 50%
EWM 39 down 33%
PI / integration 33 up

US boards show the same shape with different absolute numbers. On Dice, ABAP and Fiori lead the technical side with roughly 300 postings each; FICO, EWM and Basis are the largest functional and technical clusters; and SuccessFactors is large on general boards but modest on contract-focused ones.

Scarcity: where the premium is

Volume is not the same as opportunity. The modules with the biggest year-over-year demand growth, according to Talenbrium's July 2026 SAP enterprise applications report, are:

  • S/4HANA Finance: +35%
  • S/4HANA solution architect: +30%
  • SuccessFactors: +25%
  • Enterprise and data architect: +20%
  • S/4HANA functional (all modules): +18%
  • Basis and HANA: +18%
  • Program and project management: +16%
  • ABAP and RAP: +15%
  • Security and GRC: +14%

And the modules where rates are still rising rather than flattening are SuccessFactors (+8.7%), SAP PI/integration (+22.6%), FICO (+1.7%) and ABAP (+2.1%). Rates fell for generic S/4HANA (-7.6%), HANA (-19%), EWM (-8.3%), SD (-12%) and GRC (-11%), even as the number of ads for some of them rose. That is the signature of supply catching up at the mid level.

Reading the two lists together

A few conclusions hold up:

SuccessFactors is the surprise. It is the largest contract market by volume and rates are rising, driven by HCM moving to the cloud alongside S/4HANA. The caveat is that the work is less customized and the talent pool is deep, so posted US contract rates ($43 to $72 per hour) are the lowest of the major modules.

FICO remains the safest specialization. Highest-volume functional area, rates holding, and it is the first workstream in nearly every S/4HANA program. It is also the most crowded, so experience with Central Finance, Group Reporting or RAR is what separates candidates.

Integration is the premium play. BTP, CPI and Integration Suite postings are fewer, but they take twice as long to fill and rates are going up. Almost every RISE and GROW program creates this work, and most ECC-era consultants cannot do it.

EWM is cooling after a boom. It was the hottest module of 2023 and 2024; ad counts and rates have both come down as consultants retrained into it. Still a solid market, no longer a shortage.

Architects win regardless of module. Solution, integration and enterprise architects show the strongest demand growth and the highest rates, and they are the one tier where the shortage narrative is fully supported by the data.

Choosing a direction

If you are early in your SAP career, pick a high-volume functional module (FICO, MM/SD, or SuccessFactors) to get reps, then add a scarce layer on top: integration, data, or clean-core development. If you are mid-career on ECC, the fastest route to a premium is S/4HANA Finance or BTP integration, not a lateral move into another ECC module. If you are senior, the architecture tier is where the market is paying for judgment rather than configuration hours.

Every category on this board maps to one of these modules. The counts on the home page are live, so you can watch the volume shift month to month.

SAP S/4HANA Contract Rates in 2026: What US Consultants Actually Earn

Posted hourly rates for SAP contractors cluster between $55 and $90 an hour, with architects well above that. Here is what the data shows by module, by contract type, and why staffing-firm 'rate guides' run higher than what employers actually pay.
